The hit Korean drama series "Winter Sonata" that gripped Japan with a Korean wave craze after it aired on NHK will be re-aired across the island nation.

The Japanese sports daily Nikkan Sports said Wednesday that private broadcasters in Kanto and Kansai are preparing to air the sentimental melodrama series again from next month.

In the Kanto region including Tokyo, TBS will air the 20 episode series Monday to Friday at 10 am from January 9th to February 5th. It will be aired by Asahi TV in Osaka and the greater Kansai area at 10:25 am on Saturdays from January 13th.

TBS says the debut drama of actor Bae Yong-jun has been aired several times on NHK but the demand is still high and viewers want to enjoy it on terrestrial TV.

The film 'April Snow' starring Bae Yong-Joon and Son Ye-jin will be screened in Japan for the third time. On Wednesday, the online edition of Japan's Nikkan Sports daily reported the decision to rerun the Korean melodrama starring heartthrob Bae, whom Japanese fans adore as "Yonsama."

Since its September premiere, a director's cut of the movie was screened during the following two months, and that same version will be shown again this month. Three runs of the same film is considered highly unusual. A director's cut is usually only found on a DVD release, which points to the Korean actor's runaway popularity in Japan.

Bae on Tuesday thanked fans for their love and support, saying he's happy to meet them again through the movie and that he hopes April Snow will remain a pleasant memory.

Actor Bae Yong-joon, Japan’s favorite son-in-law who is nicknamed "Yonsama," demonstrated unflagging popularity despite a long absence when he attended the opening ceremony of the “Hallyu (Korean Wave) Expo in Korea” on Jeju Island on Wednesday.

Having participated in the shooting of new drama “The Four Gods” for several months on Jeju island, Bae arrived at the expo 10 minutes late sporting a ponytail and a grey suit. Upon his arrival, his Japanese fans who came to the event to see him cheered and waved, which caused Jeju Governor Kim Tae-hwan to pause while delivering the opening speech.

The media also showed great interest in covering Bae. When Bae emerged from behind the stage and not from the entrance where he was expected to appear, cameramen destroyed the photo line to scramble toward him, causing havoc. And later when he left the stage, reporters even scuffled with the event’s staff trying to chase after him.

Bae’s Japanese fans showed their passion for the Korean actor by staying until he left, despite cold weather. A wife from Tokyo even said that Bae had saved her life. Having fought with breast cancer since 2005, she said she had experienced a "three-part miracle," with the first part being her healing of the spreading cancer, and the other two parts her complete recovery after she fell in love with the actor.
